Masood Kausar takes oath as Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa


PESHAWAR: Lawyer Masood Kausar was sworn in as governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Thursday.

Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Afzal administered oath to newly appointed governor.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Amir Haider Hoti as chief, the provincial ministers, lawyers, PPP and ANP leaders also attended the ceremony.

Speaking to the media after being elected, the governor of Kausar, said that peace in the tribal areas will be his first priority.

Kausar has been selected twice in KP Assembly. He served as speaker KP Assembly 1988-1990 and deputy CEO of the opposition leader 1990-1993. In 1994 he was elected senator for six years.

Born in the southern district of Kohat, May 2, 1938, Kausar received his BA from Islamia College Peshawar and received his law degree from the University of Peshawar in 1960. He went to England in 1968 for his bar at Lincoln's Inn.

He was elected president of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association in 1984 and was named Professor Emeritus of Law at the University Law College, Peshawar.
